At Maastricht University, our teaching is focused on an immersive block design, where we implement Problem-Based Learning (PBL) across six teaching periods of approximately seven weeks. PBL is based on four key principles of modern education:
Constructive learning - students develop their own knowledge networks by reflecting on what they know and what they need to know.
Contextual learning - students apply knowledge in context.
Collaborative learning - students actively work together to discuss and disentangle problems.
Self-directed learning - students take ownership of their learning process.
